CORONATION
The Lord Lieutenant of Devon has asked the Devon Association of Parish Councils (DAPC) to share a letter to town and parish councils regarding the Coronation of King Charles, offering support for celebrations taking place around the county and with examples of how you can get involved.
Town and parish councils are thanked for their support to anyone holding events in their communities focusing on the King's themes of youth, community, diversity and sustainability.

The Coronation of The King Charles III and The Queen Consort
With the Coronation of His Majesty coming up on the 6th May this year, I would like to offer my support and that of my Deputy Lieutenants for celebrations that might take place around the County.
We understand that in the current financial climate it is likely to be more difficult to hold large events, however your support to others holding events in their towns, parishes and communities would be most welcome and in particular with the King’s themes of youth, community, diversity and sustainability
With your networks of communication, it would be wonderful to engage with communities to promote the understanding of the constitutional, historic and spiritual significance of the Coronation and to illustrate and reflect His Majesty’s constitutional position within the UK and globally. Some online resources will be made available to do this particularly in schools.
The centrepiece of the Coronation weekend will of course be the Westminster Abbey Service, on Saturday 6th May and a concert will be performed at Windsor Castle on Sunday 7th. Here in the County there will be a service held in the Cathedral in Exeter on the 7th at 4pm to celebrate the Coronation to which community representatives will be invited. I am sure services will take place around the County to and we will send representation where invited.
For the Coronation Big Lunch on Sunday 7th May, communities will be invited to celebrate together in their streets, parks, gardens and community spaces. We welcome information about events taking place in your area which we will publish on the Lieutenancy website.
The Big Help Out on Monday 8th May will highlight the positive impact that volunteering has on communities across the county, it is hoped the initiative will bring communities together in volunteering and create a lasting legacy from the Coronation weekend. We are looking to get involved with groups who are setting up specific volunteering events for the weekend and would appreciate you, both publicising on your social media and sharing with us any such events that you come across.
If there is any information we can help with or questions you might have please feel free to get in touch and we will try to find an answer for you.
