Cruwys Morchard Parish Council Report 2025

It has been a relatively quiet year in the parish. However in the wider world after the general election in July 2024 we have a new Labour government and in local elections earlier this month the Liberal Democrats having the largest number of seats but without an overall majority. Time will tell how these political changes will affect us at Parish level.

Sadly this year saw the closure of The Cruwys Arms and at the end of May Pennymoor Timber.

The three defibrillators have thankfully not been needed to be used and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers who regularly monitor them.

As usual planning applications and highway problems dominate our meetings. The state of the lanes and more major roads continues to deteriorate at an alarming rate with very little seemingly being done to make repairs. I would urge all councillors and parishioners to report all potholes on the Devon County Council website.

The Churchyard Grants have been increased this year with £480 for the Parish Church and £240 each to both Way Village and Nomansland Chapels.

The precept for 2025 has been set at £5800.

We have complied with all the statutory requirements.

I would like to thank Viv Ray our Clerk for all her hard work. Mrs Colthorpe (District Council) and Mrs Squires (County Council) and all my fellow councillors for their time and guidance. Iwould also like to wish Mrs Squires a happy retirement after many years of hard work for thecounty.

Finally on VE day I would like to remember all those that gave the ultimate sacrifice 80 years ago.
