Invitation to join Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme

Hello!

I am the coordinator for the Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme, a newly established network to support parish environmental projects. We are in the process of rolling out the scheme to all of the parishes in Mid Devon. We are really keen to be in touch with people in your community who are potential wildlife wardens to help nature thrive.

Here are some details about the scheme:

Play Your Part For Wildlife - Join The Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme Today!

Do you need support to help nature to thrive in your parish? The Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme exists to support parishes in Mid Devon with environmental projects focussing on nature, gardens, public spaces and farming. We offer a simple induction training session and provide opportunities for wildlife wardens to attend talks by experts and visits in the field as well as gain unlimited support.  Find out more on www.middevonwildlifewardenscheme.co.uk.

What does being a Wildlife Warden involve?
  • A few hours of training and induction and then as little or as much time as you would like (just a few hours a month)
  • Championing wildlife in your area - this could mean working on a specific project with others or contributing to a range of nature projects and community events
  • Working together with 2-5 other Wildlife Wardens representing wildlife in your parish
  • Reporting in to the MDWWS Coordinator and Parish Council on a monthly basis
  • Being part of a District-wide scheme offering support and training
If you would like to chat more about how we can help, please contact Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Coordinator, Jess Carter, on wwcoordinatormiddevon@gmail.com or 07722301375'

I'd be very grateful if you could help this scheme to flourish by supporting in the following ways:
1. Mentioning the Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme in your next Parish Council Meeting
2. Submitting details to your parish magazine (or sending me the contact details for your parish magazine)
3. Putting me in contact with a member of your parish who might be interested in being a part of the Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme.

I hope to work with you soon. Do let me know how I can help your parish to benefit from the Wildlife Warden Scheme. I am happy to speak on the phone, over Zoom or in person.

Our next meeting is a talk by County Ecologist Tom Whitlock on 'Managing Verges For Wildlife' on Thursday 20th October in Crediton. Book here.

Our Next Wildlife Warden Induction Training session is on 7th November via Zoom. Contact me for details.

Best wishes,
Jess Carter
Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Coordinator

Agenda Item 10.1 - Outstanding Highways issues

  • Speed restrictions in Station Road – SCARF re test requested – with Cllr M Squires/NHM to action
  • Request for a School sign in Station Road and possible zig-zag lines outside the school. With NHM to consider a sign and or a SCARF retest
  • New grit bin for Kingfisher Close – grant requested. Chased October 2022
  • Broken sign at Sandown Lane (Oct 22) – RW can’t fix so has been reported to DCC
  • Parking on Station Road (Oct 22) – reply from DCC as follows

“Please put together a formal request for the site to be looked at for possible parking restrictions such as Double Yellow Lines, DYL's.

Send this to Margaret for her to agree with then I can add it to the future wish list of waiting and parking restrictions.

Please note that the more information, plans photos etc., you provide and the type of restriction required makes it easier down the line.

Also note that this is a very long process due to legal proceedings and only happens once a year at the moment, as part of the HATOC process.”
